SUMMARY:Beating time-to-market in an era of uncertainties - some solutions to accelerate game development
DESCRIPTION:Time-to-market is becoming more and more of a key concept. The time when we could work 5+ years on a AAA before we could see whether it would reach its audience has shown its limits: cheap financing as dried up\, UGC-educated audiences are in constant lookout for novelty\, immediate and unlimited distribution solutions have made the traditional distribution cycles redundant\, and making a good game isn’t just good enough anymore to secure a place in the sun. Success — across all segments — now hinges on swift iteration and rapid market feedback. But how can we expedite time-to-market without compromising quality or bursting budgets? Is there a way to break the time-budget-quality deadlock and simply go faster? Join us as we explore a range of existing and emerging solutions\, from strategic outsourcing and standardized tools to advanced AI implementations.

SUMMARY:What Went Wrong? The Top 5 Reasons Why Partnerships Fail

SUMMARY:Creating Effective Portfolios
DESCRIPTION:How do you build a portfolio that grabs potential clients’ attention? Our industry is full of beautifully rendered portfolios that showcase a studio’s capabilities\, but polished visuals alone don’t help developers imagine what it would be like to work together. Many developers today are looking for external partners who can learn and grow with them. Creative journeys are messy and chaotic – developers need partners who proactively come up with creative solutions and effective processes that mature the project during its exploratory stages\, as well as partners who comprehend what effective\, scalable\, and sustainable pipelines look like when the project is moving into production. These elements require clear explanations that go beyond beautiful renders. \nThis session will teach service providers to showcase your studio in a way that demonstrates your approach to journey of creation\, how your team helps clients overcome challenges\, and the tools and processes that you use to produce an effective and sustainable pipeline. For developers\, it provides insights into how to interpret portfolios and evaluate whether a potential partner matches what you’re looking for.

SUMMARY:Queer Screens - Redefining and Championing Queer and Trans Voices in Gaming
DESCRIPTION:PTP is excited to host an essential panel at the Montreal International Games Summit (MIGS) that will highlight the experiences of trans and queer game makers. Rooted in the findings of PTP’s Pink Paper\, this discussion will address the vital role of representation both in-games and behind the scenes. The panel aims to illuminate how queer and trans voices can shape narratives that are authentic and empowering\, while also advocating for inclusive industry practices that support diverse creators in building the skills needed to tell their own stories.\nModerated by Pink Paper writer and game scholar Alex Custodio\, the discussion will open with a brief introduction to the research findings by PTP’s Advocacy Manager Gina Hara. The panel will feature: Kim Belair (writer and co-founder of Sweet Baby Inc.)\, Dr. Jess Rowan Marcotte (game designer\, co-founder of Soft Chaos Cooperative and co-organizer of QGCon)\, and Courtney Blamey (co-director of GAMERella and PhD candidate specializing in critical game design). \nBy spotlighting these voices at MIGS\, PTP is advocating for structural change in the video game industry\, where trans and non-binary creators are often underrepresented. The panel will explore strategies to foster environments where these creators can thrive\, gain visibility\, and take on leadership roles\, ensuring they have a platform to shape narratives that truly reflect the diversity of our communities.

SUMMARY:Creating an Environment for Effective Communication
DESCRIPTION:“How can I get my external partners to talk more?” “Why didn’t my external partners understand my feedback?” “Why are my external partners so direct in their communication?”\nIn any external development collaboration\, communication is crucial in establishing alignment and creating deeper relationships. However\, working with teams from different cultures and geographical locations post new trials for the local teams. Common challenges are getting the external partners to engage in open communication as well as maneuvering around differences in language comprehension\, working principles\, thought processes and comfort levels. Many times\, even best practices that enhance effective communication such as proper documentations and clear roadmaps are overlooked. \nOne of the keys to success in any external development partnership is to overcome communication barriers to allow the game dev team and their external partners to build trust and cultivate a safe & effective work environment. Conflict arises when there are assumptions that others think and operate like them. Setting a clear expectation early on eliminates misunderstanding and unnecessary conflicts. Important part of this effort when dealing with global partnership is having a deeper comprehension of the differences between cultures that adhere to lateral and hierarchical leadership so there is a context of how these societies function\, make decisions and why. This understanding will not only provide insights into the areas that need improvements within the external engagements and healthier ways to adapt when working with a different culture\, it will also develop respect and empathy among the game dev team and their external partners\, eventually leading to a seamless collaboration even when the work itself is challenging.
