Queer Screens – Redefining and Championing Queer and Trans Voices in Gaming

October 31 @ 10:00 am - 10:55 am

PTP is excited to host an essential panel at the Montreal International Games Summit (MIGS) that will highlight the experiences of trans and queer game makers. Rooted in the findings of PTP’s Pink Paper, this discussion will address the vital role of representation both in-games and behind the scenes. The panel aims to illuminate how queer and trans voices can shape narratives that are authentic and empowering, while also advocating for inclusive industry practices that support diverse creators in building the skills needed to tell their own stories.
Moderated by Pink Paper writer and game scholar Alex Custodio, the discussion will open with a brief introduction to the research findings by PTP’s Advocacy Manager Gina Hara. The panel will feature: Kim Belair (writer and co-founder of Sweet Baby Inc.), Dr. Jess Rowan Marcotte (game designer, co-founder of Soft Chaos Cooperative and co-organizer of QGCon), and Courtney Blamey (co-director of GAMERella and PhD candidate specializing in critical game design).

By spotlighting these voices at MIGS, PTP is advocating for structural change in the video game industry, where trans and non-binary creators are often underrepresented. The panel will explore strategies to foster environments where these creators can thrive, gain visibility, and take on leadership roles, ensuring they have a platform to shape narratives that truly reflect the diversity of our communities.
